““Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.” ” – - Shinichi Suzuki

STUDIO POLICY

Every music student is unique. They have distinct goals and aspirations. They learn in different ways. My primary goal as a teacher is to provide a unique learning experience tailored to my student’s aspirations. Most importantly-we focus on making music a lifelong pursuit.

Piano Students will need a well-maintained and tuned acoustic piano or full-sized weighted digital keyboard for daily practice. If you want help purchasing an appropriate piano, I will be glad to provide links to a variety of suitable options. Additional materials may be recommended by the teacher.

Parental Support is an extremely important factor in musical training.  Students whose parents take an active role in their progress tend to be more enthusiastic and productive. Provide a quiet space where the student can practice, and encourage a regularly scheduled practice time each day.

The studio is located at 410 W Kansas, Medicine Lodge.

Please be sure that your children’s hands are washed before they come to lessons. This will help to prevent the spread of germs and will ensure that the instruments stay clean.

CURRICULUM:

I use the Mayron Cole Music curriculum for the 5 yrs and older group piano classes. Assignments are listed at the front of the book. There is a charge of $17- $22 for each book (depending on the level).

The 3-4 year old group class will use the Wunderkeys book. The charge for this book is $15.

For group guitar and ukulele classes I use the Modern Band Method by Hal Leonard. This book will be an additional $15-$20 fee.

Vocal students will use The Full Voice Workbook by Nikki Loney along with other supplemental songs/books, which will be determined for each student’s individual need. The Workbook will be purchased by me and there will be an estimated charge of $15-$20 per book.

MISSED LESSONS * CANCELLATIONS

Lesson times are standing appointments; a student’s lesson time is reserved for only them each week, and it is their responsibility to attend. Dance classes and sports teams do not offer reimbursements if you cannot attend a rehearsal or game- music lessons are no different.

If your child didn’t go to school that day because of sickness, your child should not come to piano.

Rescheduling- Cancel/reschedule your lesson by contacting me. Reschedules are not guaranteed.

If the teacher must cancel lessons, students will be offered another lesson time or tuition may be credited. In the event of severe weather and school is cancelled, lessons will also be canceled that day.(tuition will not be credited for weather cancellations)

RECITALS * STUDIO BREAKS

Students will be given the opportunity to participate in the Spring Recital each year in addition to other performance opportunities and studio parties (as soon as I have the performance dates scheduled you will be notified).

The studio is NOT closed on every national holiday. Sometimes students will have lessons on a day when there is no school. See the calendar on the website for all holiday and studio breaks.

DISCONTINUATION OF LESSONS

Music is a lifelong pursuit, but lessons are not always possible for a multitude of reasons. Whatever the reason, I will not take discontinuation of lessons personally. If you are unsatisfied with your lessons for any reason or if you are contemplating quitting, please speak freely to me about your concerns.

Discontinuation of lessons requires a 30 day written and paid notice- This gives us time to wrap up any current projects and discuss how the student can continue to follow their music goals. This also allows me the time to fill that empty lesson slot so that I can avoid a loss in income. No refunds are given for lessons that are not taken. Thank you for your consideration.

Mutual respect is a key goal in our studio. At the discretion of myself, a student will be dismissed from my studio for any of the following reasons, including, but not limited to:

  • Consistent late payments, practice habits that are not in line with studio requirements, lack of motivation and progress, excessive absences or tardiness, failure to abide by studio policies, consistently not bringing materials to lessons, refusing to follow the weekly assignment, continual misbehavior, inappropriate or disrespectful behavior towards myself or other students.
